Fourth of July?

Interesting looking at the calendar, realizing that it is July 5th and we missed the 4th! Not a peep or a flash seen. I suppose it would have been different if we had been around other ex-pats- but among the Honduranians the 4th of July means nothing more than the day between the 3rd and the 5th.

The wind was blowing hard last night. The tin roofs were rattling, the waves blowing higher on the shore. We are not directly on the ocean- we are on an inlet that is calmer than the ocean- but the wind  still whipped up the water here more than it had been before. We can see the ocean across the inlet. A narrow spit of land with a few houses is what is between us and the ocean.

So many fruit trees here. Mango, papaya, breadfruit (is that really a fruit?). Most of the trees have fruit on them- but none of it seems to be ripe right now. Perhaps any ripe fruit is quickly harvested.

Yesterday's dive were both wall dives. Very spectacular. The second dive in particular reminded me of hanging gardens. Lush vegetation dripping off the walls, so many different colors and textures. Also a greater feeling of being in an aquarium. I think it was because the depths off the wall gave a much bluer backdrop to the schools of fish swimming around us.

Off to another day- two more dives in store.
